TUALATIN, Ore. AND PHILADELPHIA, Pa., (June 27, 2011) — Lightspeed Technologies, a leading provider of classroom audio solutions, today unveiled two new classroom audio solutions: The TCQ in-ceiling multimedia speaker and TOPCAT in-ceiling classroom audio system during the ISTE Conference, booth 2549.

TCQ Multimedia In-Ceiling Speaker
The TCQ combines flat-panel speaker technology with a traditional low frequency cone speaker in a single 2 x 2 ceiling tile panel to achieve high speech intelligibility and multimedia quality sound, from a single speaker. The TCQ reduces installation labor and costs, providing schools more budget dollars to maximize technology investments. This single speaker is compatible with all of Lightspeed’s CAT 800 series classroom audio systems.

TOPCAT Wireless Classroom Audio System
TOPCAT is designed to meet the requirements of new construction projects and improve the learning environment by distributing high quality audio evenly to ensure every student can hear. The single, unobtrusive flush-mount ceiling speakers are both simplistic and cost-effective for school-wide and district-wide installations. 

TOPCAT Audio System
TOPCAT is the company’s first in-ceiling classroom audio system that connects wirelessly to various media sources right from the teacher’s desk for easy connectivity. A mixed audio (ALD) output is available for recording the class or for helping students with mild to moderate hearing loss so they don’t miss a single instruction. Each TOPCAT includes Lightspeed’s REDMIKE VC, light weight and compact microphone for hands-free voice clarity and amplification with single touch volume control.


TOPCAT and TCQ both feature:
  • Flush mounted, single speaker with in-ceiling design to blend into any décor
  • High speech intelligibility with wide sound distribution up to 1200 square feet
  • 595mm x 595mm enclosure for simple installation into suspended ceilings
  • Plenum rated (UL 2043) suitable for in air handling spaces
