TUALATIN, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lightspeed Technologies, a leading provider of classroom audio solutions, today announced the launch of its "Go Green" initiatives. Lightspeed’s goal is to reduce power consumption of its products while reducing environmental impact by eliminating hazardous substances from their electronic components and manufacturing processes. To further reduce environmental impact, Lightspeed is introducing a no cost, electronic recycling program to recycle its products that have reached the end of their useful life.

Energy Star Compliant
Our ENERGY STAR qualified Classroom Audio Products are designed to meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy. Energy star qualified products use less energy than standard models thereby helping save energy and money, while protecting the environment. All of the features and functions are available, with reduced power consumption.

Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Compliant
Lightspeed Wireless Infrared Classroom Audio products (REDCAT, 820, 850 and 880) are in compliance with the European Union (EU) Directive 202/95/EC Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS). The RoHS directive mandates that effective July 1, 2006, all products sold into the EU must significantly curtail the use of Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybrominated Biphenyls and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers. While the U.S. has not passed similar legislation requiring "green" compliance, all products shipped within the U.S. and elsewhere will meet the same strict environmental standards.

Electronic Recycling Program
E-cycling initiatives are becoming evermore present at the federal and state levels with 17 states adopting legislation regarding the recycling of electronic equipment. Electronics waste is growing exponentially. Televisions are used on average for less than two years. For computers, it's three. Recycling, or "E-cycling," these and other electronic items is critical for preserving landfill space and for ensuring that hazardous materials used to make electronics are properly disposed.

The Lightspeed Recycle Program is a green initiative that goes beyond state electronic recycle programs that only include televisions and computers. This program offers schools the opportunity, free of charge, to recycle Lightspeed classroom audio systems that have reached their end of useful life. Lightspeed also accepts other manufacturer's products when replaced with new Lightspeed systems. Schools will no longer have to find storage for old classroom audio equipment, find a recycler, or pay for its disposal.
